In the early part fo the twentieth century, the most controversial topics in chess were the novel theories of Aron Nimzowitsch. It seemed to many that he was trying to demolish classical chess thought by applying moves that seemed arbitrary or even ridiculous. Yet, using his system, he won game after game against the world's elite, becoming one himself. The world was forced to seriously question the ideas which they had so long ridiculed, and fellow practicioners soon began following Nimzowitsch. The School of Hypermodern Chess was born.
